Affiliate Internet Marketing Tip 1 - Is A Home Based Affiliate Business For Newbies?
Many internet marketing gurus will urge “newbies” to get into online marketing with a home based affiliate business. They claim that this is the easiest way to start making money online, whether you have a blog or a regular website.
My own experience over time has been somewhat different, until more recently - but more about that later.
Let’s first look at what affiliate marketing is. Simply put it is the online equivalent of a sales representative… you know, the guy walking around with his briefcase full of samples, earning commission on his sales?
Only there’s quite a big - and fortunate - difference! With a tried and tested affiliate marketing system practically everything can be automated. Once your virtual sales process is properly set up for one product, you can move on to the next and do it all over again!
Best of all, if you use the right tools for your home based affiliate business, this can turn out to be one of the best free business opportunities available today.
Of course nothing is quite that simple, but it can be done, and it is done by countless affiliate marketers around the globe!
So how does affiliate marketing work in practice?
You find a merchant with an affiliate program for a product, say a golf training program, a digital camera, car parts, anything!
After signing up as an affiliate you will get links and banners containing your affiliate code.
Now you start promoting those links or banners. If you have a website in place, you can put up the links on your site pages. Or you can join Google’s Adwords program free, and start placing ads - this is also called PPC search engine internet marketing (we’ll get into that elsewhere on this site!).
When visitors click through your links and buy the product at the merchant’s site, your affiliate account gets credited with a commission amount - often in real time!
So, as someone new to internet marketing, should you try your hand at such a home based affiliate business?
When I was starting out on the Internet, I found it easier to generate a regular income by building and promoting niche sites providing information and reviews of consumer products. I used Google’s AdSense program to monetize these sites.
The reason I was initially more successful with AdSense was mostly because I was more comfortable with providing information than with selling, or even preselling! With AdSense you get paid for the clicks on the ads and not for the sale (which may or may not happen)!
The other reason why I had little affiliate marketing success when I first started out, was because I had very little knowledge of the most important elements of a successful affiliate marketing campaign. I also lacked the tools and systems used by successful affiliate marketers.
