My RC Helicopter Hovering Training has begun! Not easy at all, but I think with patience and concentration I will get there.
Below is a short video clip of my first lift off – all of 2 inches…
WARNING: Shortly after this video was shot I did an early moring training session on a bigger field, and lifted off higher (about 2 feet) – big mistake! I wasn’t fully in control, and the heavy training gear caused the Belt to veer to the side, then backwards, then forwards as I struggled to regain control, picking up momentum and swinging like a pendulum. The result was an uncontrolled nose-first “landing” at about a 25deg angle. Luckily the forward training pods hit the grass first, and the skids shifted about an inch through the cable ties on the sticks, absorbing the shock, so the impact caused no damage. The rotor just clipped some early moring dew off the grass…
The moral of the story: Heavy (any?) training gear can unbalance your helicopter, and cause it to react sluggishly to the controls, especially if the heli was trimmed before putting on the gear.
Anyway, on to my Esky Belt CPV2 – here is my RC helicopter in hovering preparation:
