How To Make My Own Website Series – 7 Easy Steps To Making Your Own Website

The ‘How To Make My Own Website’ series has been written for folks who want a website of their own but are not sure how to go about it.

In 7 easy steps, you’ll discover exactly how to put up your own custom money-making website, without paying big bucks.

‘How To Make My Own Website’ is a brief overview of the whole process that is involved in getting online. So, let’s get started.

First I would like to get one or two basic questions out of the way. This is one I hear a lot…

“Do I really need a site of my own? I got a free one with the last affiliate program I joined. Can’t I just use that?”

My answer is always the same…

Sure you could. That’s if you’re willing to hinge your success on a site that is identical to thousands of others.

And I hate to admit this, but I tried that route too. It didn’t work then and it certainly doesn’t now.

You can try it too, but I guarantee you’ll learn the hard way that making YOUR OWN web site is the first step in promoting ANY business online, even those affiliate programs.

Another question is: “My budget is already stretched to the limit. Can I still make my own website?”

My aim is to help you to do this on the cheap. The total cost of making a custom web site can be less than 75 bucks, plus some of your time.

Once your site is up, the only ongoing costs are monthly web hosting charges, which can be as low as five dollars per month. You are also looking at yearly domain fees of $10 or less.

Now that’s cheap for your very own business online!

Step #1 – Decide on your topic and put a brief outline down on paper

Most folks have a hobby or interest they are passionate about. If you know your subject inside out, it will be much easier for you to write short articles for your own website.

This is called ‘creating content’. The more content you create, the easier it will be for folks to find you in Google and the other search engines.

Draw out what you want on your new website. Don’t worry about the look right now. Just figure out what your basic web pages will be about. For example:

  • Main page: You’ll need a main page where you show people how you can help them and offer something free in exchange for their email address.
  • About page: This will be the page that describes your company or yourself and why visitors should be listening to you.
  • A list of other pages with free information, each one covering a different aspect of your area of expertise.
  • A resources page: Here you can list other related websites your visitors will find interesting. The idea is that the websites you add on this page, will add a link to your website on their resources page in return. This is one way of getting more visitors to your site.

You may also want to check out other websites about your topic to get more ideas.

In the second step of the ‘How To Make My Own Website’ series, I will tell you how to get all of your paper planning onto your computer. To get a headstart, you may want to check out this free resource in the meantime.
