Learning how to fly your RC heli? Well, here is a quick tip if you are practising how to hover your helicopter!
Once you have reached the stage where you can comfortably hover your helicopter tail-in for a full battery, now is the time to learn to hover side-in.
So how should you go about this next step?

Before you start, it is important to be prepared for getting disoriented!
While you are now quite comfortable with a tail-in orientation, that will also be your best way of recovering, so be prepared mentally to rotate the nose forward with your rudder the moment you start feeling uncomfortable. That will help you to instantly – and instinctively – regain control and relax before your next attempt!
Remember, you will rotate forward to regain control the moment you feel unsure during your side-in hover!
Important: Now first practise the recovery a few times before you attempt to hover side-in for any length of time.
After take off, and once your heli is stable about chest high in front you, slowly rotate the nose to the left until it faces you side-on. If you’re not confident enough to do a full side-on rotation, first rotate 30 or 40 degrees.
Now rotate forward again while you keep the heli in the same spot. Practise this recovery sequence a few times until you are sure you can rotate forward instantly, and without having to think about it!
Once you are confident of the recovery you should be ready to start practising the side-in hover.
So now you do the following: take off, stabilize the heli tail-in at chest hight, rotate carefully to the left as far as you feel comfortable, and try to hold the heli in that orientation as long as possible.
The moment you “lose it”, simply rotate forward and regain full control, then try again.
The aim should be to hold it side-in for at least a full battery, and then repeat that for another battery or two.
Only then should you start practising to hover facing the other side. Now you are well on your way to learning how to hover an RC helicopter!
